The Magnolias of Alabama: Historic Antebellum House in Hope Hull, AL
Description
The Magnolias
Welcome to the Magnolias of Alabama, a renovated 4800 sq ft historic Greek Revival home, circa 1865 house, Federal House with dogtrot circa 1820, guest house, outdoor pavilion and barns on 100 acres of improved cattle pastures and old growth timber just minutes from I-65 in the wonderful Hope Hull community, just outside Montgomery.
This historic sanctuary seamlessly blends the charm of its rich past with modern amenities and updates. This versatile property would make a great wedding or event venue, or a wonderful family estate home in the country but close to shopping, restaurants and medical facilities. The property is minutes to the airport, but not in the flight path.
Updates
The main house was completely rebuilt from the ground up in 1998 with an addition added in the 2000s. It retains all original floors, windows, doors, while the interior walls have been updated with insulated sheetrock. A historical chandelier from the original Montgomery Train Station, now converted to electric, graces the space. Recent updates include a replumbed front gas line, a new ventless gas fireplace, and a gorgeous solid cherry mantel with inlay from France. The electrical system has been upgraded for the entire house to service all the outbuildings and any new future construction. The roof was completely redone in February 2018 with a 20-year transferable warranty, and the HVAC system was updated with reworked ductwork and a new unit installed the same year. New plumbing lines and a tankless propane hot water heater were added, along with a community water tap with an option to switch back to well water.
The Federal House
The Federal House built in 1820, has the original heart pine. This historic structure has been modernized with electrical installations, high-end dual mini splits, foundation work, rebuilt fireplaces, a hot water heater, and water installation. With the surrounding hardwoods and dogtrot this is where most of the tall yarns from the past will be passed on to the next generation.
The Magnolia grounds
The property has a separate 2 car garage with bonus room and also features a 30x60 pavilion constructed with a concrete pad and large pine timber posts and commercial string lights that cover the pavilion to the grounds. A large wrought iron chandelier hangs in the center for perfect evening lighting. A separate 7 stall bathroom house has its own septic, water, and electrical system and was constructed with rough cut pine to complement the Federal House dogtrot style. The hay barn is equipped with lights and electrical, with 4 stalls and a hayloft. There is a smaller 3-sided barn in the pasture for shelter.
The Property
The pastures are fenced and cross-fenced with metal gates and have 1200 feet of well water lines running parallel to pasture for livestock and irrigation. Whitetail deer and wild turkey have made the wooded area their home along with other interesting game animals. The grounds close to the main house have fruiting pear trees and fig trees the deer graze on routinely during fruit harvest. A year around creek meanders through the back of the wooded part of the property.
